I just want to share my opinion on a topic I do not see being discussed as much as I think it should be. Writers are underpaid and given a one-time fee for their well-written content while the Websites that buy these articles can earn thousands from a single post, continuously for years to come.
Why are some writers earning so little from their hard work?
I think the simple answer to this is that most writers have not discovered the hidden potential in their content. Each time you write an article, you could be planting a seed that will only grow in the years ahead. What you need to realize is that the market for your content is as big as the internet itself. You could be the one earning the thousands instead of a single unsatisfactory fee.
How can you use your content to your own benefit instead of selling your words so cheaply?
You have another option. You do not need to sell your articles to the highest bidder. Let me break it down for you…Why do people pay you to write content for their Websites? This is because they will be earning even more from the content you provide. So the question you should be asking yourself is,
“How can I utilize my content to make a successful Niche for myself?”
Firstly, you need your own Unique Website. This does not have to be hard. All you need to do is think about a topic that you enjoy writing about and find an area within that topic that is marketable. The potential is limitless. People are always searching Google for answers and your Website could provide a solution.
Next, you should be asking yourself
“What are these Websites doing with my content to earn money?”
What is the most effective way to use a Website to earn a lucrative income?
The answer is, through affiliate marketing.
So now you might be saying,
“If this is the best way, then why aren’t more people doing it?”
So why aren’t more writers getting into affiliate marketing? The simple truth is that many have tried and failed miserably. If you do not have the correct tools unless, by some fluke or a miracle, you will fail. You need to know the ins and outs of the business.
Now, you should be asking,
“how do I do this????”
Here are the steps you need to take to become a successful affiliate marketer
- Find a learning platform
- Get yourself Website
- Learn how to write engaging content
- Optimize your Website to generate traffic
- Find Affiliate programs
- Choose the right affiliate program
- Add affiliate links to your content
- Post frequently
- Update frequently
- Be honest
1. Find a learning platform for Affiliate Marketing
You need to find the best learning platform and get your claws in deep. Don’t just dabble your toes in the water. Once you see the potential, and I am sure you will, sink your teeth into it and get to work!
Many fail because they do not take their online business as seriously as they do their 9-5 working to build someone else’s company.
The simple fact is, if you want to earn money online, you need to commit. I do not mean you should spend every waking hour learning and implementing what you learn! No! the beauty of online marketing is that you make your own hours.
If you invest 2 hours per day, make the 2 hours count.
Of note, all these steps can be taken at my #1 recommended affiliate marketing platform.
2. Get yourself a Website and find a good hosting platform.
A Website will be your building and you are the only one employed in this building. It is your job to make it work. Anybody who tells you can become a successful affiliate marketer without a Website and/or a channel of some sort is a liar and a thief.
Your Website is the place that you will create content and drive traffic to your associates so that you can earn.
To be able to get free, natural traffic, you need a good hosting platform for your Website.
If your hosting is wack, your Website will be slow, spammy and Google will not be able to trust your Website. Therefore they will not send any traffic your way.
3. Learn how to write engaging content.
If I begin to read someone’s content and I am immediately snoozing, then I am going to hit the Big RED “X” to the top right-hand corner of my screen. It is that simple.
Whatever you are writing about, whether it is as exciting a beach party in Rio de Janeiro or as boring as a strand of hair, you need to make it interesting.
There are simple tips you can follow to make your readers stick it out to the end no matter what the topic may be.
An important thing to remember is that when someone finds your content, they must have been somewhat interested in the topic to click on your link. So now it is your job to keep that interest planted on your words.
4. Learn how to optimize your Website to generate traffic.
So now that you know how to engage your reader, how will you get readers? Well, you need some ‘Googlebot love.’ This is what we call Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
You need to know how to optimize your content so that Google will trust your Website and send traffic your way.
This way, you never have to spend a dime to get traffic flowing your way. Getting your content to rank on Google is not as hard as you may think.
Implementing a few tips I learned from Wealthy Affiliate had my affiliate market targeted websites ranking on the first page of Google instantly, almost every single time.
5. After generating traffic, find affiliate programs that are relevant to your Website.
Some people get as far as owning a Website with traffic but never generate any income. Why? Either their content is boring or they are affiliated with the wrong companies. Find a list that is directly related to your niche.
So if you are writing about cats, do not advertise laptops in your sidebar! Nobody cares!
Now the exception to this is when your company shows the Ads related to the individual on your site after collecting information from their recent browsing, “texting habits,” etc.
Yes, they do monitor your conversations and market it. We have all had that experience where we just texted our friends telling them how much we need new shoes then went on a Website later that day and got shoe adverts on a home remedy Website. Creepy I know, but good for affiliate marketers. Which brings us to our next step…
6. Apply to the most trusted and highest paying affiliate companies in that batch
If your link sends me to a sketchy Website to purchase something, I will not be comfortable plucking out a credit card and entering my banking information online.
I am sure it is the same for you!
Ensure that you read about the company you are representing and always have a disclaimer on your Website, just to be on the safe side.
Do not represent any company that you would not consider spending your own money with.
If the company offers Paypal as a payment option, that is usually a good sign. Read reviews of the company’s delivery services, return policies, etc.
7. Add links within your content.
So after doing all the groundwork, add the links. There is a technique to this and I will do an entire post on this.
Yes, it is that important. If your links are placed incorrectly, you will end up wasting potential customers. I’ve been there.
If you take a look at my recent post, ‘How I Moved From Zero to my First 1000 month online income‘, you will see that even though I made a thousand dollars that month, the conversions were less than stellar. That is something I had to work on to improve my earnings.
Also, I just want to point out that you either clicked on that link or thought about clicking it. That is an example of good link placement 🙂
8. Post frequently
Frequency is important not only for your readers but for that Googlebot love I mentioned before. If you want to become an authority within your niche, Google needs to see that you are popping up on the internet frequently.
So you can post an article, a youtube video, social media post, whatever it may be, just ensure your presence is felt on the internet.
It is best to have a schedule so your readers know exactly when to expect your content to drop.
When you make your claim on those days, they now belong to you and your readers will be looking out for your content. If you pop up every now and then, here and there, they will lose interest.
9. Update your content frequently
Nobody wants to read last year’s information. So ensure that you keep your posts relevant. The “best cat food of 2019” may not be the “best cat food in 2020”
Also, Google will gradually phase your content out of the top spots if they do not offer relevant information.
10. Be honest with your readers
Do not lie. Don’t do it.
Do not represent something that you do not believe in. Your readers can tell when you are being fake and if they can’t, chances are it will catch up on you one way or the other. That is the way of the world.
For example, if you are reviewing a product and you think it is absolute garbage, even if the commission is attractive, say you hate it and recommend something else. It is better for you to tell the truth and miss out on a few bucks than to gain a few ill-gotten dollars and lose the trust of your readers.
That is all I have for you today ladies and gents.
Have a great weekend wherever you are in the world, or a great day… Whenever it is in your world, make today count.
